– Pastie Politics Issue 1
As a child Penny Pins was a strange young lass who was more interested in music, 1960s pop culture, and vintage fashion, than she was interested in boys and Barbies. From age three–16 Penny studied classical ballet and American jazz. As an adult, Penny realised she missed the glitz of the stage and finally acknowledged that she is a big old attention seeker. And so she decided that getting naked on stage was what her life was missing.
Penny has been on Aotearoa’s burlesque circuit since 2010. Based in Auckland, Penny has a distinctive approach to burlesque which combines Neo-burlesque and Cheesecake styles, with just a touch of self-deprecating humour.
As a big ‘fuck you’ to generalised assumptions about women who strip, Penny would like you to know that she has two Masters degrees and is currently considering a PhD.
